                                SCOUT GROUP
the past year
It has been an exciting year for 2nd Thrapston Scout Group. We started the year with nine Beavers and ten Cubs. In February the Thrapston Farmers Market gave us a grant
for £500 which we used to purchase new craft equipment. We also had a grant from Thrapston Council for £1000 to enable us to buy much-needed camping equipment.
Beavers (6 to 8 Years)
They had a very busy year with plenty of activities, visits and even a camp. The section have been hiking, and making lots of crafts including clay models, cards and decorations. They had an activity day at Stanwick Lakes where they did pond dipping and learned about Vikings. They also did the district camp in July where they had two days of activities and fun and they even tried bowling at Thrapston Bowls Club.
Cubs (8 to 10 years)
The section nights have been varied: learning about first aid and fire safety (including a visit to the fire station), environmental conservation and navigation. They have been doing tent pitching getting ready for a camp which they went to in April at Overstone, plus the District Camp in June. In June they did shooting at Woodford scouts. Together with the Beavers they went on an activity day organised by the scout district.
Scouts (10 to 14 years)
In September we reopened this section and started with three scouts. Very soon, by the end of October, we were up to seven scouts. They have done Warhammer modelling and craft activities (clay and decorations). Together with the Beavers and Cubs they went on a hike round Fermyn Woods.
Going forward
All three sections have a lot planned. The Beavers will be going on a District Beaver Sleepover in March to Gulliver’s Land. The Cubs have a camp planned in May and the Scouts will be camping in June. Other things the group will be involved in are Charter Fair, Remembrance Day and another the litter pick with the council.
We started 2023 with 19 young people and we finished with 38 young people (14 Beavers, 17 Cubs and 7 Scouts).
We are a growing group that relies on volunteers to help run the sections and we
are looking for adults to help in the Beavers, Cubs and Scout sections. We have roles to fit every lifestyle and skillset, with all the relevant training provided. If you are interested, please contact us at 2nd-thrapston@nenevalleyscouts. org and you will be given a warm welcome.
