Thrapston Plaza Opera
Thrapston Plaza Opera welcomes you this month to a fully staged performance of Donizetti’s ‘L’elisir d’amore’ or ‘The Love Potion’ on Thursday 22nd, Friday 23rd at 7pm and Saturday 24th at 5pm in The Plaza.
This fast moving musical farce, sung in English with orchestral accompaniment, will have you laughing throughout the evening
as well as being beguiled by the enchanting melodic flourishes of our principal characters.
In brief, a local village lad is desperately in love with a wealthy lady farmer. Being quite naive, he buys a ‘love potion’ from a rogue passing trader, convinced this will make him irresistible! But his love’s desire is already betrothed to a dashing soldier and all the villagers come to celebrate the imminent wedding. What can our unhappy lad do? Will he get his girl?
No spoilers here! Just come and see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Thrapston Plaza Opera was founded in
2010 and has put on a major production every February including well known titles such as Carmen, Aida, Madame Butterfly and The Merry Widow to name but a few, as well as concerts and smaller works at other times of the year.
Chorus members are all local. Auditioned principal roles are taken by trained singers often from further afield, our leading lady this year coming from Dunstable!
Nevertheless, while aiming for professional standards and always having orchestral accompaniment, TPO remains an amateur Company, totally reliant on the sale of tickets to ensure it continuing success.

Allegra Singers –
Thrapston’s Ladies
Community Choir
We at Allegra are now celebrating our tenth anniversary since we began. We have enjoyed weekly rehearsals – first at King John School and for the last 6 years at The Islip Sports Pavilion on Wednesday evenings, singing show songs and popular songs in 3 and 4 parts. We have sung songs from Lady GaGa and One Direction to Cold Play and Take That – a very diverse selection! We have also sung songs from Les Miserables, Fame The Musical, An American Tail and LaLa Land.
We have taken part in the Oundle Festival of Music and Drama on
several occasions, actually winning our Community Choirs class in 2018 with “Something Inside So Strong”. We have also competed at the North Northamptonshire Music Festival, coming second twice.
We have performed in The Masque Theatre in Barton Seagrave, The Stahl Theatre in Oundle and Thrapston’s own Plaza and Thrapston Church over the 10 years. One of the things we love doing
is concerts to smaller audiences such as the Cranford WI, the Thrapston WI and Thrapston Ladies Club.
We are available to sing at any event – to entertain at dinners or special events etc.
We are now seeking new members to swell our ranks – we would like to welcome all ladies’ voices – low and high. We sing for enjoyment – no audition is necessary.
