OUR LOSS IS
THEIR GAIN
Friday 1st February saw the last attendance of Cadet Warrant Officer Miles Gilroy as a member
of 868 (Mirfield) Squadron Air Training Corps, the next time the Squadron met he was a member of the Royal Air Force, training to be an Aerospace Systems Operator! He said his reason for joining was "to pursue a career in aviation and his experiences as a cadet cemented that that is where I belonged."
Miles joined the Squadron in July 2012, and over next six and a half years he rose to the highest cadet rank and achieved so much, including Gold Duke
of Edinburgh’s Award, Air Cadet Pilot Scholarship, First Aid at Work, Air Cadet Leadership Course, Marksman, Sports representations for South and West Yorkshire Wing and North Region Aid Cadets at Swimming and Football.
He also became a great support for the Squadron staff in running and supervising various activities,
It was the best thing

ever do; I loved every moment and would recommend it to anyone
leading the cadet NCO team and taking cadets to a variety of events such as Flying and Gliding. He had this to say about his time as an Air Cadet: "It was the best thing I could ever do; I loved every moment and would recommend it to anyone. My favourite experiences were the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme with Tayside Aviation at Dundee Airport and captaining the Wing team to victory in football."
Squadron Commander Flight Lieutenant Peter Doubell said “he will be greatly missed at the Squadron, but we hope he will be able to bring his enthusiasm and support to a new career in the Royal Air Force, and we wish him well as he embarks on his training, and I’m sure he will make return visits to us in the future.”
