FLYING VISIT
Cadets from 1323 Squadron recently joined 2394 and 110 Squadrons for a visit to 645 Volunteer Gliding School at RAF Topcliffe to undertake Blue Wings aviation ground school training. The day included
a walk round of the now decommissioned Vigilant glider, a classroom session on principles of flight and basic gliding mechanics, a tour of the airfield to revise the features found on an airfield, and practical training time spent on the Viking and Vigilant simulators.
As part of the RAF Air Cadets progressive training syllabus, cadets must undertake ground school training and have received a flight at a Gliding School or Air Experience Flight, before they are awarded with their blue or bronze aviation wings.
Cadet George Baldwin, of 1323 Sqn said "I really enjoyed the time spent at Topcliffe, and although we didn't get to fly for real, the time spent on the simulators was worthwhile. I can't wait for an opportunity to get in the air for real."
