I think the most challenging thing has been navigating through the economic turmoil
we’re all currently faced with. The pandemic shut manufacturing down around the world, shipping quadrupled in cost and supply became scarce. You have to be able to adapt quickly.
Dog, Cat or Iguana - who’s at home? We have our beloved chihuahua Penny. She is going to have a big brother too as we’re getting another chihuahua from a local rescue shelter.
Who makes you laugh? I think I’m the funniest person I’ve ever met, but Vicky says that she laughs at me and not with me so it doesn’t count. We enjoy stand up comedy and shows like Peep Show, Cats Does Countdown and Friends. Speaking of Friends, if I had a pound for every time someone shouts “pivot” when I’m carrying a sofa I could retire already! “To me to you” is also a popular one.
Any plans to expand further? We’re ambitious and we’re always looking to develop our business and expand, a second retail location is certainly one of our goals.
Realistically, considering the economic outlook, I think we may have to put physical expansion on hold for the time being and instead invest in developing our store in Thrapston along with our website – striving to be the best we can be.
What’s your most popular item? Overall it’s no surprise that the coffee and a cake deal has taken the crown for most popular item, however if we’re talking furniture then our sofas and armchairs have been extremely popular.
Proudest moment? What we’ve achieved
in such a small amount of time makes me extremely proud. I remember we were at a trade show a few years ago, walking past the Tetrad exhibition stand and deciding that there was no point in even looking at their furniture because we’d never be good enough to stock such a prestigious brand – and now their sofas are sitting on our shop floor. This moment shows me how far we’ve come and it’s hard not to look back and think, “Wow, I can’t believe we’ve actually managed that!”
