Thank you to everyone who came to our Charity Quiz Night, it was a very successful evening. The money raised enabled the club
to quickly respond to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria by making a donation to Shelterbox, a charity that was originally the idea of a Rotary Club in Cornwall. Shelterbox specialises in providing shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help people to recover and rebuild their homes after disasters.
In the late autumn, club members planted hyacinth bulbs that could be distributed to people in the area who might need something to cheer them up. The club received many messages of thanks after they were delivered.
Our club has always been keen to support young people. Most recently we have been involved in sponsoring the Raunds Community Library Short Story Competition for children. We also have been keen to encourage young people in a variety of other fields through Rotary youth competitions and activities.
Over the years, Rotary Young musician has been one of our most frequent activities. Kiera Exall, a student at Manor School, has taken part in Young Musician since she was in primary school and we were delighted to hear that she is now a member of the National Youth Orchestra,
as well as the County Youth Orchestra. Kiera attended a recent club meeting to give a talk about her involvement in the National Youth Orchestra and to perform some music for our entertainment. The club was pleased to present a cheque to Kiera as a contribution to the purchase of a new piccolo (pictured above).
For some of our members the spring heralds the opportunity to help disabled sailors at Sailability on Grafham Water, and we look forward to that activity in the coming weeks.
