Harrogate Autumn Flower Show 2017

Me, Graham Porter, Tim Crowther
I visited the show on the last day as a mere visitor rather than an exhibitor but it wasn’t
long before I got waylaid by Tim Crowther and Graham
Porter from Radio Leeds for an impromptu live radio interview about my new role as President of the NAS. It was good fun as
always and it’s always good for raising awareness of our organisation.
I was so pleased to see an exhibit from Harrogate and District Allotment Federation at the show; a rather interesting exhibit too. Well done HDAF. Phil Gomersall
The Great Yorkshire Show
MYHarvest from Shef eld University let me use part of their stand at the Great Yorkshire Show to promote our organisation. The University also had a second stand for their soil research department which was a big hit with many of the farmers and of great interest to them.
The days at this show are very long 7.30am – 7.30pm and the rst day wasn’t too exciting on the MYHarvest stand outside as it was quite wet. However, the second and third days were brilliant with lots of punters being drawn into the stand to see what we had to offer.
It proved to be more productive for MYHarvest than for me but I still managed to get our name out there and gave out lots of advice.
The kids loved the photo board that Shef eld University had brought along and many adults did too. The children also thoroughly enjoyed rummaging in the trays of compost to nd bugs to put under the microscope.
Roscoe Blevins from the University has proved to be a natural showman arranging for radio interviews (which incidentally he missed) but I was able to participate in them to promote our beloved allotment gardening and organisation. He was also a hit with the kids pointing out things on the compost trays which they had never noticed before (see photo).
All in all a good time was had by all and our partnership with the University continues to ourish.
