WLAF at the green Fayre
West Lancashire Allotment Federation attended the annual West Lancs Green Fayre on 22nd and 23rd July. Over the two days of the event some 11,000 people came along to join in the fun to attempt wall climbing, watch the dog trials, the Vikings (at war again), and many other activities. The weather was good to us this year with plenty of sun and blue skies and only one small shower on the Saturday.
The Federation have this year promoted a competition to nd the Best Allotment Plot in West Lancashire. Based on the theme ‘Why I love my allotment’, entrants were asked to provide two photos of their plot supported by 100 words to express their feelings. From the many entries received from across the borough the winners were announced at the Green Fayre.
Judged to be winner was Darren
Gibson who has his plot with
Skelmersdale Horticultural Society
in Ashurst. Darren received £50
of garden vouchers along with a
certi cate. The two runners-up,
who each received £25 of garden
vouchers and a certi cate, were
Alan Balmer from St. Teresa’s
Allotment Group in Upholland and
Brian Dobson from Poor Marsh
Pals in Hesketh Bank. West Lancs Borough Council provided the garden vouchers and the judging.
Our thanks go to all those allotmenteers who entered the competition. And to those who did not win, may you have better luck next year.
