Haverfordwest and District Allotments and Cottage Garden Association
On the 1st July 2017 the Association celebrated its 100th Year Anniversary.
The 3.5 acre eld was donated by local businessman and magistrate Sidney James Rees JP in 1917 to the people of the district for the use of cultivation and growing produce to feed their families at a time when food was at a shortage due to the Great War.
The day’s celebrations started at 2pm with the unveiling of a plaque on the site by Haverfordwest Town Mayor, Cllr Alan Buck eld, and after photographs and a few speeches by local dignitaries and
a walk around the plots, all members and guests made their way back to The Oak Inn for a buffet tea and a talk by local historian and
curator of the town museum Dr Simon Hancock on the history of allotments and the First World War.
The Association were delighted to welcome the Welsh region NAS mentor Mr Peter Ryan and his wife and Mr Paul Davies who were among the invited guests on the day.
