 Exercise ESCALADA CADET
After landing in Palma and finding and under- taking the usual settling in process at the accommodation on the Saturday, we were keen to get straight into the climbing bright and early on the Sunday. We drove to Puig St Marti, and after taking a moment to admire the stun- ning views we began learning and going through the process of preparing the equipment and ourselves to climb safely. Being the first climb- ing experience for a number of us, the pace was kept slow and manageable, particularly given the challenging nature of the climbs. Fears faced and skills learnt, we had a very enjoyable first day.
The next day we headed to Cas Catala for some more challenging climbs. However, perhaps uncharacteristically for Majorca, a bout of thun- derstorms meant the instructor took the decision to abandon the climb for health and safety rea- sons. We decided to take in some of the local culture instead and visited some historic land- marks around Palma.
For the remainder of the week we got the weather we hoped for and visited Felanitx and La Creveta for some stunning and more chal- lenging climbing.
I would like to take this time to thank the organi- sations that contributed to such a success- ful trip, including the Sandhurst Trust, and can assure you that we certainly reaped the benefits of facing the challenges Rock Climbing has to offer.
