Skiing the White Horse Lt Col Andy Richardson
THE 1ST OF FEBRUARY or ‘ACSC Snow day’ might have caused jealousy amongst ICSC(L) but it also provided a rare opportunity
to ski the ‘White Horse’, which was too good to miss! Starting from Woolstone, it was possible to ski all the way up to
Uffington Castle, the prominent iron age hillfort, which sits atop the ridgeway. After an easy and enjoyable hour long ski up through snow covered fields with fences, passing the iconic White Horse, it was only a short trip up to the top at the lofty height of 260m. Conditions were fantastic and the views impressive in every direction. The castle berms provided some fun terrain and after some photographs and a quick bite to eat it was time to enjoy the descent. A relaxing ski down was interrupted only by sledging children and ACSC students before an enjoyable pint in the White Horse Pub finished the day off.
