waver, The Band and Bugles performed at the prestigious Goodwood Revival - a historic race meet staged in a period theme to recreate the glamour and charm of motor racing, as it used to be at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. During the two day event we welcomed spectators with rousing music, performed short marching displays on the track and accompanied an Act of Remembrance.
November saw the The Band and Bugles visit Bishops Auckland for the formation of the third Army Reserve Battalion - 8 RIFLES. To entertain the troops on parade and the amassed crowds, we performed a Sounding Retreat in the market square. A positive reception was received from all and we look forward to supporting the newest RIFLES Battalion...maybe one day they’ll have their own Reserve Band?!
In March 18, The Band and Bugles travelled to Lisburn to support 2 RIFLES Homecoming Parade following their tour of Iraq.
Whilst in Lisburn, we also performed a platz concert in the town centre and a mini concert in the junior ranks restaurant in audience with 2 RIFLES Col in Chief HRH Prince Edward.
In preparation for this year’s summer season the band were busy perfecting our Sounding Retreat for our annual Col Comdt’s Inspection in March. After a week of intensive drill and rehearsals we were finally ready. The Inspection took place on the main parade square at ATR(W), the inspecting officer on the day was Lt Gen (Retd) AMD Palmer
year’s Sounding Retreat which includes a musical display created by the Director of Music, Major Jason Griffiths BA(Mus) LRSM CAMUS.
Our first adventure training package for 2018 took place in March with members of the band hill walking in the Scottish Highlands based around the area of Arrochar. Six personnel from this group were there with the aim of obtaining the Summer Mountain Leader qualification. They walked up and around various mountains in the area practising essential map reading skills, taking bearings from the notable terrain features and calculating distances. Their week culminated with an overnight stay on the mountain-side before returning to the accommodation for some well-earned bacon butties and coffee. The remainder of the band spend the week gliding in Upavon, in less than favourable conditions, with our very own instructor, Sjt Paul Wright who is a former Army Gliding Champion and Chairman of the Army Gliding Association.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SUPPORTING THE NEWEST RIFLES BATTALION...
