Our most exciting concert performance this year was at the Guards’ Chapel in Wellington Barracks. Not only was it a debut performance for Band RIFLES, but it was also a world first – the first non-state military band to perform in the Guards’ Chapel! The concert theme was the Five Pillars that make The Rifles Regiment; Corps of Army Music, the Army Reserve and Cadet Force Bands coupled with the sound of the iconic Bugle, played by Riflemen both past and present. With an over capacity audience including Lt Col Peter Balls OBE, Lt Col Kevin Roberts, Lt Col Vernon Yates and Col Victoria Reid, the concert was a huge success, with money raised from refreshments donated to the chapel for some essential repair work.
The Band and Bugles continued the theme of working in the bright lights of the city and were tasked to support the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards, to provide light entertainment at a Buckingham
PRESENTING THE AWARDS WERE SEVERAL NOTABLE PERSONALITIES INCLUDING ROSS KEMP, STEPHEN MERCHANT AND RICK STEIN
Palace Garden Party. The awards ceremony was hosted by members of The Royal Family; the Duke of Cambridge, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Beatrice of York and Princess Eugenie. Presenting the awards were several notable person- alities including Ross Kemp, Stephen Merchant and Rick Stein.
Back on the road again, and the band entertained the public in various locations around the Volvo Ocean Race Village in Cardiff as part of ‘The Army in Wales Festival of Music’. After several perfor- mances in the blistering heat we performed our own marching display which concluded with a Massed Bands Retreat and Sunset Ceremony, alongside the other band that were participating outside the Wales Millennium Centre.
