Cadets from Mexborough raised funds for the detachment and the Royal British Legion at the Manvers Residence Community Coronation Event.
The event organised by residents was a Tea party celebrating the coronation. Alongside the tea party were fete style stalls including one organised and run by the cadets of Mexborough Detachment. The Cadets charged 20p per throw in a sponge toss game raising a total of £32.
They also helped with the event and represented the detachment. A great time was had by all.

Cadets Picnic
in the Park
By SI Mark Evans
Thorne cadets were out in force over the Coronation weekend to support our local "Picnic In The Park". With virtually the entire detachment present, they were able to
offer an insight into the training that a cadet undertakes including the opportunity to try on some kit, climb into a basha and perform hands-on CPR whilst also offering some sweet prizes for taking part in the beanbag throw. They also carried out a quick drill demonstration and performed a salute for the new King which was noted by the Thorne RBL branch to be very smart.
They also had the opportunity to relax as a group and enjoyed the activities on offer including the inflatables, vintage fire engine and seeing how many could fit in the back of the police van!
Cadet Sgt Ajay Whiting said "It was good to see the local community coming together to cherish the occasion of the King's Coronation".
Emily completed a Care Home Initiative during Covid where she organised the writing of 293 letters to residents, and the delivery of staff care packages to 7 local care homes.
She is also a dedicated fund raiser having raised money for various charities including SSAFA (£230.50) Walking with the Wounded (£197.75) and contributing to fund raising efforts for the Royal British Legion.
Perhaps her biggest impact has been her mentoring work. Tracey Eagle, parent of Benjamin Eagle says: “During the last 8 months Emily has been mentoring
my son Ben, his teachers, respite workers and family have noticed a
remarkable difference in him; and it's all thanks to her hard work and perseverance. She has done many things with Ben and achieved
some amazing achievements including getting him to participate in activities others have attempted to do and failed. These include travelling on a bus, trying new foods, participating in art and going to the cinema. Emily also helps Ben in doing research for his homework projects such as voodoo and coal mining, in addition to things such as swimming, bowling and trampolining. Without her help these past months Ben's life would have been a lot less
fun and he would have missed out on experiences a 10 year should have. As a family we can never thank Emily enough for what she has done and continues to do for Ben."
