You will have plenty of waste material for composting now and the next few months so please use it properly to make good compost which is a valuable source of nutriment for the soil. I see many compost areas on our allotments containing rubbish

and material that will never rot down. My compost area has three equal sized bays. When one is full I leave it to rot down and it will be ready for use the following year. Any new material goes in another bay. I keep one bay empty and occasionally I transfer a full bay into it as it aerates the compost and helps in the rotting down process. At the end of the season, though, I usually have so much material that two bays are full but
after a few months it will have decreased in volume and will fit in one bay.
Lastly, this is the month when most of the seed catalogues for next year drop through the letter box. Choosing seeds is a job I really enjoy doing. I order some from several different suppliers but most of them are from the same supplier because I send in a bulk order from members of our local horticultural society and we get a good discount.
