First Aid at Work : UNIT 1

TREATMENT : TONIC-CLONIC SEIZURE
• Protect them from injury • Cushion their head
• Look for an epilepsy identity card
• Time how long the jerking lasts
• Aid breathing by gently placing them in the recovery position once the jerking has stopped
• Stay with them until they recover • Be calmly reassuring
Dial 999 or 112
If You know it’s their first seizure
or Seizure lasts for longer than 5 minutes or The seizures are repeated
or They are injured during the seizure
or They need urgent medical attention
Do not:
• Restrain their movements
• Put anything in their mouth
• Try to move them unless they are in danger
• Give them anything to eat or drink
• Attempt to bring them round
