PENETRATING CHEST WOUNDS Recognition
In addition, you may see evidence of the following:
• Obvious signs of trauma – blood loss • ‘Bubbling’ around the wound
• Shortness of breath and respiratory distress • Coughed up red frothy blood
• Chest pain
• The sound of air being sucked in when
• Sthheockasualty breathes
• Cyanosis (blueness around the extremities
such as the ears and lips)
• Swelling
• Chest wall bruising and open wounds • Distended neck veins
• Tracheal deviation (shifting of the windpipe)
