Baggage screening is conducted after check-in at departure. It is to prevent prohibited items from entering restricted areas and being placed on board.
Baggage screening is carried out using equipment like x-ray equipment and explosive detection system (EDS). There are five levels of baggage screening, but majority of the baggage passes through level one.

Cargo screening is conducted before cargo is loaded onto the aircraft. It is done to detect explosives. Cargo screening is carried out using similar equipment to baggage screening. An interesting method of cargo screening is canine search, where they bring in dogs who are trained to detect explosives!
