GROUND OPERATIONS
3. Cargo Service
Airlines are liable to customers for mishandled, damaged or lost cargo. A delay in handling departure may result in
delayed departure of flights. This area handles cargo related activities.
What are some of the things they do?
- Transport air cargo from aircraft to cargo terminal and
vice-versa
- Load and unload cargo
- Secure cargo properly
- Handle special cargo (e.g. oddsize, live animals, valuable cargo, perishables, dangerous goods etc)
- Cargo screening and customs check
- Operate Cargo Handling equipment e.g. Unit Load Devices (ULDs), Pallets, Joint Container/Pallet Loader (JCPL) and Bulk Cargo Loader
   NOTE:
unit load devices & pallets are equipment used to store and carry cargo in big batches.
joint container/pallet loader and bulk cargo loader are equipment that is used to load and unload the above mentioned equipment on and off the aircraft
  NOTE:
Import refers to goods for sale that is brought in from another country.
Export refers to goods that is sent to another country for sale.
