On a downside I have had to stop feeding the birds for a while as it attracted rats and the cat obviously has farmyard tendencies and kept catching them. The cat flap is now sealed so any "presents" she brings home to me are kept well and truly outside. But we live in the country and so rats are part of the scene. The grass in the field behind has been cut and there are cows with calves and a solitary horse now. Usually

there are sheep.
Val - I am devastated = I love Montalbano and now he is going to be killed off - a bit like Wallander I suppose. I worked for a short while with an Italian professor from Aston University at the hospital and he told me that Camillieri wanted to show how impoverished and unfunded the police force was in Sicily in his novels. I just love watching it on TV and am looking forward to the Y oung Montalbano
Yesterday I gave in to a month's free trial of Amazon Prime and Hilary Manel's 3rd book at half price too! It has arrived today and it is RATHER heavy I have also ordered face masks and a new floor mop (the new Flash one that I saw on an ad on TV in the week). Last of the big spenders!

I signed off before saying this - I know that I have not been in the position of not seeing family members during lockdown - I think that must have been really hard. Also, lockdown meant that funerals were not held as in normal times. Rod for example will now have two memorial services, one in Abbots Bromley with the burial of his ashes and the other down here in Malvern at All Saints, both at some time in the as yet unknown future.
There has been so much kindness seen too though. Praise for the NHS and greater awareness of just how hard their work is and their dedication to their patients. Also the hard work of the carers in the community and in care homes. And also in local communities and local services keeping going. I hope we can build on that before we all disappear behind our front doors again.
