told I was too tall to be a girl in Sur le pont d'Avignon and had to be a boy. Well I am still the same height I was then - everyone else just grew taller than me.
If we read through these pages the name of Miss Meyer stands out for many of us so I do remember her history lessons (as well as her cake). I have no recollection of sex lessons about bras, boys and underground stations with Miss Bryan but I do remember Mrs Traynor
and her biology lesson and also her saying with a twinkle in her eye something along the lines of "that's how to do it" but that is not a verbatim quote. For me Mrs Lowe who taught me Spanish for one year - not sure what happened to her. Mrs D'Arcy and her English lessons and her clothes in pregnancy closed with safety pins. Mrs Benham's name has just come to mind - I think she taught me O level French - I had forgotten her until this afternoon.
I also remember Mrs Slaymaker who taught I can't remember what. I got to know her a bit better as I think she spoke Norwegian to the two Swedish girls who came over - Christina to me and Kerstin stayed with Maureen Finch. They did however say privately that they understood her English better than her attempt at Swedish/Norwegian!
I think the whole school knew about Miss Gunnery and her shedding of tears over the Easter story. It was almost something to wait expectantly for. Miss Esam too with her geography lessons - yes South America with books with cocoa plantations in sepia print pictures.
They were of an era long gone now. And probably the cocoa plantations have been grubbed up too!
Ruth - have you ever thought of reprinting your father's book. It sounds fascinating. I know there is a local History group in Barnet as I belong to the Westminster, North London and Middlesex Family History Society who meet in the Lyonsdown Hall in New Barnet. This is just the sort of book they could sell as there is a growing interest in these memories these days - as well as us too of course.
I was hoping for a storm today and did not water the pots this morning. However the sky has remained blue as blue can be but a bit windier than yesterday. I would like a bit of rain - I have managed to break the hose at the top of the hose and now get a good wash myself whilst doing the watering. I have been told by someone else that theirs broke in the same place so I don't feel too bad about it now. I have the option of either getting wet until watering time is over or buying a new one now! -
Hope you will all continue to keep safe and keep social distancing. I don't think anyone wants another lockdown! Sad news about the stabbings in Glasgow Glenda so soon after the stabbings in Reading last weekend.
I have a complete block - is it Miss Meyer or Miss Mayer? Must be the heat!

My apologies for the hiatus in the recent plethora of emails: the world and his (or should that now be her) wife have been in touch with personal congratulations on Liverpool's success! And none of us kicked a ball! And, interestingly, neither did Liverpool since it was Man City who lost rather than Liverpool winning. However, I will take our success anyway it comes and we now live to see the record broken in the number of points scored by any club in a given season. Those of us born on the Wirral are expected to support two teams – Tranmere Rovers and either Liverpool or Everton. It is quite normal for a family to be split between Liverpool and Everton – the rivalry is as nothing as between Liverpool and Man City!
