class in our year and they certainly transformed her. Oh Judy - Girl and School Friend, how I loved Wednesdays when they arrived - only for perhaps the first year or two at school.
Must stop. Back to strong winds and showers here with intervals of surprisingly hot sun.

I wouldn't want you to think I do not think about you all on a regular basis, but today you have been very much in my thoughts for a number of reasons.
It started when I rang Janet - been meaning to do that for some time but picked up the phone today and we had a long chat - which I trust we both enjoyed. The emails are all lovely but occasionally a 'proper chat' is required. As one widow of 11 years to another of very recent standing I felt the need to bond a bit more closely.
Shortly after that I turned on the lunchtime TV news. The first news item showed that shops were opening in Scotland for the first time. I scanned the queue filmed outside Primark (in the pouring rain!) but Glenda - where were you? Perhaps your mask disguised you.
The next item focussed on the 'spike' in Covid cases in parts of the USA - in particular Texas - and I immediately thought of Cary. I am not sure exactly where you are located but hope that this does not impact on you too much.
Then we had more news on the opening of pubs etc in England at the weekend (having had it pointed out that this was in part the cause of the spike in Texas and Florida) and I thought of Judy's remark about sipping wine in her garden but wishing to be able to do that in a pub with others. Be careful Judy - and everyone else who might be tempted. Peter has booked a table at West Lodge Hotel restaurant for mid-July. (where in the past I have met Val T for lunch - and where some of us used to have tea after the Old Girls lunch you may recall). This is for the day before my birthday and I am watching carefully the news about social distancing in catering establishments to ensure that all is safe. Can't eat your lunch with a mask on obviously!
The bulletin was rounded off with a weather forecast and I noted what appeared to be masses of rain-bearing clouds over Northumberland (have you got an umbrella Sandy?) and Shropshire (likewise Mag H) which would certainly not help 'outdoor socialising' which has been the only safe resort of many people in the past few weeks. Having got rained on twice yesterday - once having coffee in my sister's garden in the morning and then in afternoon having tea in Peter's daughter's garden, I know that eating cake is quite difficult when you are also trying to hold an umbrella - particularly in gusty winds!
