The Great Maya Cave Quest

(2) Rosa Delacruz, Pierre’s former coworker, an archaeologist
Situation: Pierre has not seen Rosa for ten years. He wants to find a hidden Maya cave. He
thinks that there is a map in an old book that she owns. He goes to ask her if he can borrow it.
Scene: Rosa is at work putting books away. Suddenly, she hears a familiar voice behind her.
“Hello, Rosa,” says Pierre. Rosa turns around in surprise.
“Pierre? You're here?” she cries out angrily.
“Yes, 1am,” he says. “What's wrong? Aren't you happy to see me again?”
Rosa does not answer. She only glares at him. Pierre continues, “I actually came to see
you because I want to borrow something from you.”
“You want to borrow something?” Rosa asks in disbelief.
“Yes—" Pierre starts to say, but then Rosa turns away and grumbles, “Don’t you
remember? You got that archaeology grant! instead of me. It wasn’t fair!”
“You're not still upset about that, are you?” he asks.
“Yes, Iam still upset about it. It was completely unfair,” says Rosa, still angry.
“Look,” says Pierre slowly, “I don’t want to fight. I just want to borrow your old book
about Maya caves. You know which book I’m talking about, don’t you?”
Rosa looks surprised. She asks, “You want to borrow my Maya caves book? Why?”
“T can’t explain,” answers Pierre, “but it’s important. You'll lend it to me, won't you?”
Rosa looks at him carefully for a minute. Then she continues putting books away as she
says, “I'll think about it. Come back tomorrow.”
