                     We  have  decided  to  go  to  Chile.   He  reminded  his  son  to  study.   |  want  to  see  the  doctor.
                     She  promised  to  be  on  time.   He  convinced  me  to  study  medicine.   |  want  you  to  see  the  doctor.


                      1.  Certain  verbs  can  be  followed  by  an   |  like  to  eat.

                        infinitive  (fo  +  the  base  form  of  a  verb)   Infinitive
                        or  an  infinitive  phrase.               |  like  to  eat  chocolate  cake.

                      2.  These  verbs  can  be  followed  by  an  infinitive:   |  hope  to  get  better  at  diving.

                      3.  These  verbs  can  be  followed  by  an  object  +   The  teacher  encourages  us  to  ask  questions  in  class.
                        an  infinitive:  advise,  allow,  convince,   |  urge  you  to  consider  your  plans  carefully.
                        encourage,  remind,  teach,  tell,  urge,  warn.*

                      4.  Some  verbs  can  be  followed  by  either  an   He  expected  to  pay  for  dinner.
                        infinitive  or  an  object  +  an  infinitive,  but  the   He  expected  me  to  pay  for  dinner.
                        meaning  is  different:  ask,  expect,  need,
                        pay,  want,  would  like.*


                      5.  Add  nof  before  the  infinitive  to  make  the   They  promised  not  to  be  late.
                        infinitive  negative.

                      6.  Be  careful!  Use  an  infinitive  after  want  and   /  |  want  you  to  exercise  more.
                        would  like,  not  that.                  X  |  want  that  you  exercise  more.
