The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is a trade
association of the world’s airlines. It supports the airline activity and helps in

formulating the airline industry's policy and standards.
IATA is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec – Canada with many executive

offices in different countries around the world.

(A) History of IATA:

1- In 1919: The air transport union was founded and its memberships

were only confined to the European airlines.

2- In 1929: the developed official union of air transport was founded.

3- In 1939: the Second World War broke out and resulted in radical

negative changes in the airline activity; a decline in the airline business.

4- In 1944: after the Second World War; the Chicago Convection was held

in Havana; the Cuban Capital. It resulted in the creation of

the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which included the

international airline companies that have scheduled airlines.

(B) Aims of IATA:

Due to the vital role played by IATA in air transport issues, any carrier

should be an IATA agent for its important role in:

a- Promoting safe, regular and economic air transport.

b- Fostering air commerce.
