協會新進調查員 NANCY:自我介紹 TSPCA’S NEW INSPECTOR NANCY: AN INTRODUCTION

長大過程中，從自家寵物到隔壁的狗貓，從水 溝中的老鼠到動物園的無尾熊，對於動物的喜 愛，從不輸給任何事物。大學時期心理學的訓 練、工作時期寵物旅館的歷練，都成就了現在 這份工作的技能，但最讓我感到開心的，是熱 情與工作的謀合。
因之前工作的空窗期，因緣際會下來到Taiwan SPCA擔任實習生，一週2天協助處理通報案 件，從中獲得許多成就。當正職機會來到時， 我也曾感到困惑與兩難。直到某天日文課上課
途中，經過建國南路某間商店門口，一個小鼠籠、一隻黑色天竺鼠、半塊餅乾，讓我下定了決心...， 第一次經過時，我猶豫了;第二次繞回去，我停在旁邊徘徊許久，我該像往來的行人一般，忽略腳 邊的小生物?還是多管閒事，幫拼命求救的『小黑』說情? 徘徊20分鐘後，告訴自己至少試著說看 看，了不起被老闆打出來，原只想和店家老闆分享飼養天天的方式，沒想到老闆直接告訴我:兒子 不想養了，放在那讓他自生自滅。當然，現在他成為了我的家人，是每天努力工作的動力、也是回
到家的一大享受。

As a child I knew I was an animal lover. Whether it was a mouse by the side of the road or a koala in
a zoo, I loved them all. After graduating with a psychology degree, I started working at a pet boarding hotel. My experiences there coupled with my passion for animal welfare meant a job at the Taiwan SPCA was the perfect job for me.
I started off at the SPCA as an animal welfare intern. Dealing with cruelty cases everyday I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I was able to help an animal in need. However, when a full time position opened up I took some time to really think about whether or not I wanted to make this my career. Finally, I was filled with determination when I was walking on the streets one day and saw a cage with a black guinea pig inside in front of a shop. I struggled with the decision of whether or not I should go inside and ask the owner why the animal was outside on the road. I finally gathered up courage and went inside to talk to the shop keeper and he immediately said that the guinea pig belonged to his son who no longer wanted the animal and therefore left it outside to die. So ofcourse, I took the guinea pig home and he has really motivated me to keep working at the Taiwan SPCA so that more animals can be rescued.
