The Darwazas (Gates)
Being an important military outpost, the 37 km (23 mi) battlemented wall encompassing
Mandu has 12 major darwazas or gates with smaller gateways built to provide protection to
the 12 gates. The present road, through which Mandu is reached passes through many of
these.
HOW TO REACH
Mandu is located in western region in Dhar district, 90kms from Indore city connected by
road via Indore-Dhar Road.
Train connectivity: Nearest railway station for reaching Mandu is Indore railway station
having connectivity with other part of India. Further journey can be done by taxi or bus.
Flight connectivity: Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore having direct flight connectivity
with important cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore,
Bhopal, Raipur & Jabalpur is the nearest airport for reaching Mandu.
Road connectivity: Mandu can be reached directly by road through National & State
Highways. It is 90kms from Indore via Indore-Dhar Road.
BEST TIME TO GO
The best time to visit Mandu are the winter months of October-March. During the summers,
the temperature varies from 30 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. Monsoons are
comparatively pleasant with occasional rainfall and temperature on the lower side, but due
to its tropical nature, humidity rises in the ambience. In winter the temperature ranges from
10 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.
