CASCO VIEJO
Casco Viejo is the historic and cultural district of Panama City. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, Casco Viejo was established around 1673 by the Spanish colonialists, the Catholic Church, and other settlers. Casco Viejo went on to experience decades of neglect around the 1950s. The streets are filled with buildings that served as homes, cathedrals and churches and government buildings over centuries. Some of these structures have been painstakingly restored and now host museums, gourmet restaurants, quaint shops and upscale residences.
In Las Bóvedas you can cross the romantic Walk Esteban Huertas, who borders on the sea and offers magnificent sights. In the Park Bolivar a series of tables under umbrella creates a Bohemian atmosphere with musicians who delight the retainers and plays their melodies in the square. The mixture of the historical and the modern lives in harmony in Casco Viejo, making an agreeable experience and especially, memorably.
