 BRYANNA LEE
AUTHOR PROFILE
My name is Bryanna Lee, and I find writing poems very calming. It helps me work through emotions that are unexplainable. When I begin to write poetry, I feel free when I jot down what comes to mind. Ever since I was young, probably in elementary school, I have al- ways found poetry beautiful since there is no necessary template you must fol- low. Poetry can be whatever you want it to be. There is no specific interpreta- tion. It’s up to the writer to decide the true meaning of the piece. Writing al- lows me to make a different form of art other than the typical visual arts such as painting and drawing.
FLOWER ME NOT
BRYANNA LEE
Soft petals envelop my arms As vines
Curl around my ankles Twisting
The sweet nectar that fills my mouth Drips from my tongue
And sticks to my skin
Seeds begin to sprout Beneath my soles And through the Gaps
Between my toes
But
I now see what it did to me
The sprouts tried to invade me
The nectar tried to choke me Sticky sap trying to shut my mouth Where my teeth get so stuck
To where I cannot make a sound When I cannot make a sound The vines release its thorns Pricking
And cutting into my skin
The vines turned to shackles Forcing me to stay where I stand
And waiting
Waiting for me to fall Waiting for me to rot Just waiting
Until
I
Stand
No
More
But I didn’t allow that to happen
The petals tried to conceal me
Hide me
Chain me to the ground and leave me for Dead
It was nothing but a mere Weed
Sucking
The nutrient from my base But I did not let that happen I grew
Continuing to grow above its space Covering its leaves with my petals Leaving it for dead
Blocking itself from the
Sun
