Note: Godere requires the preposition di before a noun (see the first three examples below),
and the preposition a before an infinitive (see the fourth example below). The verb “to enjoy”
also translates piacere. As a reflexive verb godersi uses the reflexive pronouns mi, ti, si, ci, vi,
si, as well as the auxiliary verb essere, to form compound tenses (see the fifth example below).
Godersi doesn’t require the preposition di (see the fifth example below).
EXAMPLES
Lui gode di buona salute He enjoys good health.
Godo della sua fiducia. He trusts me. (Literally, “I enjoy/have his trust.”)
Godiamo di un’ottima rendita. We enjoy an excellent income.
Godeva a dare cattive notizie. He would take pleasure in giving bad news.
Mi godo il panorama. I enjoy the landscape.
