FINAL REFLECTION
THE HISTORY AND LANGUAGE OF ENGLISH CULTURE subject that I
studied this semester was very essential because it contributed a lot to my future
professional development. During this semester, I learned valuable things that help me out
to develop the four English skills. Also, I had the chance to develop different elements that
taught me what are the different changes that English language had through the time.
The first element helped me out to identify the impact of American culture and the
English language in a global setting. In this case, I had to make a presentation related to
America and English in the world, in which I presented the timeline of America history,
what the first settlers were, Africans slavery, and word independence. This element was
interesting because I learned things that I have never known. In the second element, the
main objective was to recognize cultural variety and linguistic differences in the United
States. Here, I had to discriminate between diverse cultures in the United States and their
values and beliefs. In the third element, I had to examine the complex interaction between
demographics and language in American and Ecuadorian contexts. The fourth element was
about Interpret the cultural and linguistic impact of the Hispanic population on the United
States and American English through analysis of literary works. In this case, we had to
illustrate the influence of Hispanic culture and Spanish on American culture and English,
through a role- play. In which, we performance traditional American food and traditional
Mexican food. Finally, in the fifth element, the principal objective was to explain the
symbiotic relationship between American popular culture and American English slang. In
which, we had to make a chart between education in the United States and Ecuador.
In conclusion, this subject was important to me because it helped me to improve all
my English skills, increase my knowledge related to English culture and it contributed a lot
to my future professional development. I could say that I will be ready to move on to the
next semester.
