invested the entire proceeds of that sale into Club Rockley (Barbados) Ltd in an attempt to save the Hotel, and also to interest the Canadian bank in a new business plan for the Hotel operation which could perhaps have met the new challenges. The bank was not interested, kept the funds, which they were legally entitled to do and the hotel closed.
That Ian has now (2017) sold the Golf Course to the members and the apartment owners at the same price as he paid in 00 is to his eternal credit. The Golf Club has survived and hopefully will prosper. and I hope that it continues to thrive for many years to come indeed to well past 06, which would be the 100th Birthday of Rockley Golf Course, and a great occasion!
My friends John and Anne Hadchity helped me enormously in all or any matters concerning hotel operations. When, in 1991 the hotel operation came fully into my ownership and I changed the operation to that of an All Inclusive Hotel, “Club Rockley”, Frank Small, our Finance Director was a constant source of support, and my former colleague at B S & T. Wayne Kirton proved to be a management consultant of rare skill and judgment. The entire staff team were outstanding throughout the twelve years of the all inclusive hotel. Together, we built up a team spirit that provided our guests with a memo- rable fun filled holiday. As one lady guest wrote on her return home, “I was 73 when I arrived at Rockley and 37 when I left a fortnight later. Thank you so much”.
