1. PROJECT DESCRIPTION 1.1 Introduction
A site evaluation report was prepared by BTKM Quantity Surveyors and Imbono Architects in November 2018 for Colosa Senior Secondary. This report is based on visual assessment of the existing infrastructure with detailed recommendations based on current department of education guidelines for senior secondary schools.
The school is located in Mission village under Colosa Administrative Authority, Dutywa just east of the National Route, N2, between Dutywa and Mbashe River which is under the jurisdiction of Amathole District Municipality.
The school caters for Grade 8 to 12 leaners and it is only high school in the vicinity with an average enrolment of 761 in the past three years.
The school consist of prefabricated structures, face brick buildings and plastered structures. The prefabricated structures are in a very poor condition and must be demolished. The face brick buildings and plastered structures have defective floors, ceilings, windows but can still be repaired.
The toilet structures are in a very poor condition and are to be demolished.
1.2. Project Scope
The scope baseline is the Government Gazette ,29 November 2013 space norms for the minimum educational areas for enabling school environment.
The needs analysis of Colosa Senior Secondary School is categories as a Large Senior Secondary school. Enrollment 2018 – Leaner’s (644)
