While taxi fares in all major cities are set by the local city governments, there
may be minor discrepancies. Taxis do not always use the meter for out-of-town
or long-distance trips, so always confirm with the driver before departing.

Post Office
• Opening a Saving Account
International students can open an account at any post office. Necessary
documentation includes: your passport, Alien Resident Certificate, name seal
(chop), an initial deposit of NT$10. In addition, two application forms and one
deposit order should be filled in when applying. Applicants without a valid
permit are required to present a "Record of ID Number in the Republic of
China" (available upon request from the branch offices of National Immigration
Agency; inquiry hotline:886-2-2388-9393; 0800-024-111).
• Postal Service
For local deliveries, first-class mail is generally NT$5 and priority mail is NT$12.
Postage for airmail, packages or express mail is calculated by weight and
destination. Most convenience stores also provide courier and express mail
services.
