Find jobs and experiences that build the skill sets you need to advance your career.
Identify the skills you want to gain (technical skills, soft skills)
o What jobs can help you gain the skills?
o Volunteer your time to build experience and skills
o Document the skills you gain from participating in group activities, extra-curricular
activities.
Someone on the debate team builds public speaking skills, poise, ability to
react to stress in a calm manner, research skills, writing skills, problem
solving, the ability to negotiate and sell a topic or theme…
Athletes gain skills in teamwork, dependability, fitness, coordination, timing,
problem solving, improved reactions, ability to analyze aspects of the game…

Complete the Assessment Form (5 Minutes)
Complete the Taking Control of Your Skills pamphlet assessment document with the client.
Be sure feedback from the client has been included in the assessment document. Include
all assessment documents in the client’s file.
