taking no chances with the knowledge that
generally swarming bees are not
confrontational. They have nothing to defend,
as they have no hive, and they are bursting
with the honey they have devoured before
swarming.
Keith was only partially kitted up, with a veil
and jacket, not the full suit. I decided I would do
the same. Bad decision on my part. Two days
later, as I am typing this, the bite I got on my
ankle is giving me major grief. My lower leg,
ankle and foot are swollen, red, itchy and hot.
My skin is stretched to the max, and my leg is
like that of an old lady with lymphedema. I
know there is an ankle under there somewhere.
I’m just not sure where. I am dosed up on
antihistamine (1 a day), and a topical cream to
reduce the inflammation and prevent infection (2
times a day).
I am also using our normal bite cream, which I
applied multiple times last night, as sleep evaded
me (and Paul!), the itching just too much to bear.
I read with surprise this morning that that cream
is only to be applied 4 times a day. Whoops. So now
I sit with a cold face washer draped across my
foot (actually, I have just upgraded to a bucket of cold water, at Mum’s suggestion
– thanks Mum!), in an attempt to ease the symptoms of the bite without
overdosing on the creams. At least this time I haven’t had to have any jewellery
chopped off. And I won’t even begin to tell you about the bee bite I also sustained
on the inside top of my thigh. Suffice to say my thigh is bruised black and blue
from my incessant scratching. Attractive is not a word I would use to describe
myself, especially not at this particular point in time! But I digress, and err from
