about this booklet
a dedicated team of sexual abuse
counsellors and young people created
this resource.
positive
We seek to support critical thinking and open non-judgmental
conversations about pornography. Act for Kids staff identified the
impact of pornography on young people’s sexual development,
and the challenges that surround these conversations. As
or
clinicians who primarily work with kids who have experienced
sexual abuse and/or engaged in harmful sexual behavior with
others, we wanted a resource that was meaningful to our clients,
and the adults in their lives.
negative?
We hope this booklet may create a more
comfortable space for an uncomfortable or
a helpful guide for navigating sex
taboo topic for many.
Marta Ponti is the artist and primary instigator of the booklet. The
topics of her drawings represent themes from mainstream sexually
explicit materials available online. The quotes accompanying
the drawings represent the voices of our clients. They are used
with the permission of the young people and names have been
changed to protect their privacy. In creating this booklet, we wish
to honour them and their individual therapeutic journeys. Special
thanks to Act for Kids Gold Coast Sexual Abuse Counselling (SACS)
team. Also, a big thank you to the Youth Advisory Council of
Headspace Southport for feedback.
