painted in watercolour on ivory, the reverse inscribed in pencil from photograph/by Ada M Howell - presumably the sitter's wife, set in gilt-metal mount with velvet reverse.
Howells was killed in action 9th October 1917. His next of kin was his father, J. Howells, living at 237 Nantwich Road, Crewe.
