第一課 月

                 中日文化比較

               李白《靜夜思》:「床前明月光,疑是地上霜。舉頭望明月,低頭

          思故鄉。」月亮是一個沒有生命的東西,在中國卻經常被詩人用來表示

          「想念家人」、「想念故鄉」。月亮在日本有代表愛情的意思,是因為

          夏目漱石曾在課堂上將英文的「I love you」翻譯成「今晚的月色真

          美」,這樣優美的翻譯也表現出日本與西方不同的文化。

I wake, and moonbeams play around my bed,
          Glittering like hoar-frost to my wandering eyes;

Up towards the glorious moon I raise my head,
Then lay me down—and thoughts of home arise.
                                                                    ---Li Bai’s Night Thoughts

translated by Tr. Herbert A. Giles

Moon is not a living creature. However, it is often used by Chinese poets

to express their feelings toward their family or to their hometown. Whereas in
Japan, the moon could stand for the word/concept of love. The reason for that

is based how Soseki Natsume translated “I love you” into 月

, which means “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it ?” The difference between
Japanese and western culture is also well presented in the translation of Sose-

          ki Natsume.
                                                         李白《靜夜思》 日文版
