Matt Mathes is the founder and metal artist behind Bench and Bolt LLC (www.BenchandBolt.com), where raw steel meets refined craftsmanship. A classically trained metallurgist with 20
years of experience in the steel industry, Matt brings a depth of knowledge and respect for the material that few can match. He spent two decades working in the meltshop—at the very heart of steelmaking—where he mastered the intense, hands-on processes of metallurgy, furnace operation, and the transformation of molten metal into solid strength.
This foundation in heavy industry is what sets Matt’s work apart. His understanding of steel’s behavior, properties, and potential fuels every piece he creates. After years of working behind the scenes in steel production, Matt transitioned into the creative side of metalwork, founding Bench and Bolt in 2024 as a way to combine industrial grit with artistic expression. With the love and support of his beautiful wife Ashley, and 3 children, the dream is to build Bench and Bolt into a thriving business for future generations.
Today, Matt designs and fabricates
everything from plasma-cut steel art, custom
fire pits, custom furniture pieces, to seasonal
décor like steel flowers and pumpkins. His
designs are bold, functional, and built to last.
