handles before carefully sewing the fibers in place. Broom corn, he proudly notes, has American roots reaching back to the 1700s when Benjamin Franklin first brought it from France. “It’s a piece of American history in your hand,” Ron says.
Together with his wife, Ron travels to festivals, sharing his passion and demonstrating his craft. One of their favorite stops is the Shaker Woods Festival, where they welcome visitors to watch a live demonstration, hear the story behind each broom, and see firsthand the care that goes into every piece.

Shaker Recipe
STRAWBERRY NUT BREAD
• 1 1⁄2 cups fresh strawberries, Hulled, cleaned, mashed
(do not drain juice)
• 1 tsp lemon juice
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 1⁄2 cup vegetable oil • 1 1⁄2 cups flour
• 1⁄2 tsp soda
• 1⁄2 tsp salt
• 1 tsp baking powder • 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1⁄2 cup sugar
• 1⁄2 cup chopped nuts
Combine berries and their juice with eggs, lemon juice, and oil in bowl. Combine dry ingredients, except nuts, and gradually stir in berry mixture.
Add nuts. Pour batter into a greased, floured loaf
