An Amazing Year for the
YellowJacket Wrestling Team
For the rst time since 2009 and just the third time this century,
Gilbert was the Berkshire League champion. Gilbert had three individual champions, and 12 wrestlers nished in the top three of their weight classes as the Yellowjackets scored a tournament record 223 points to win the Berkshire Valley Invitational. The team then placed at the State Tournament, making this the rst time that Gilbert has placed at States as a team in 22 years. They had a season dual meet record of 14-3 with only one loss to a Connecticut team.
The 2017-2018 season looked like this:
• 2nd Place Class S State Championships -
8 place winners including 1 State Champion
• 1st Place Berkshire Valley Tournament -
Set the record for highest score ever at the tournament
• 1st Place Berkshire league Champs - 13 out of 14 place winners
• 2nd Place Derby Invitational Tournament
• 2nd Place Woodstock Tournament
• 3rd Place KSA Disney Duals – Orlando, Florida
• Congratulations to Gilbert senior Andrey Zhovkly,
State Champion at 195 pounds, who pinned his opponent in the rst period to take home the state title!
Liz Wexler Hits 1,000-Point Mark
Senior, Liz Wexler, scored 1,057 points for her career! Liz was unable to play basketball because of a broken leg in her sophomore year, so she was able to do this in only 3 seasons! Liz will be playing basketball for Roger Williams University!
