The Gilbert School and Empowered Girls Rise presented “Sheroes – A Girls Movement Rally” on April 26, 2018. Empowered Girls Rise’s mission is to nurture self-respect, con dence, and purpose in girls 11-25 through education, personal development, mentorship, and community. Most of our female students opted to take part in this special daydedicatedtothem.
Thegirlsattendedworkshopsandpaneldiscussions, facilitated by Stephanie LaBonte, creator and founder of Empowered Girls Rise, along with a community of experts. Theworkshopsanddiscussionsincluded:keynotespeaker, Adriana Carrig, CEO of Little Words Project, featured on The View and Good Morning America: Believe in Yourself, Love Yourself, Be Kind to Yourself, Promoting a Culture of Kindness; StephanieLaBonte: FindYourPurpose;DoreenDilger: Con dence Building, Self-Respect, and Setting Boundaries; JenniferLaBonte: HealthyBodies,Exercise,andNutrition;Kim Grustas: Self-CareandSkincare; StephanieRivkin: Social MediaSavvy;JulesHunt: CareerFocus,CreatingandOwning aSmallBusiness;JenniferMauro: HealthyRelationships; JamieHughes,MissConnecticutUSA2018: BeReal,Embrace Your Uniqueness, Acceptance for All; Samantha Sojka: Being Human, Accepting and Embracing Who You Are.
The Gilbert School, the Positive Coaching Alliance, and the National Guard sponsored a Boys Summit for all male high school students on May 29, 2018.
The boys attended a presentation by Athletic Director, Patrick Cooke, and an interactive discussion with John Cunningham, of the Positive Coaching Alliance. Their messageswerecenteredaroundthetheme: Triple-Impact Competitor: MakingYourself,YourTeammates,andthe Game Better.
The second half of the summit was run by the NationalGuard. Thestudentsrananobstaclecourse, participated in varied sports activities, and attended demonstrations and displays by members of the National Guard.
