On January 1, 2020 Lanette Doane started
her fortieth year of working in municipal
government. She began work as a Deputy
Clerk for the Village of Ansley before
becoming the Village Clerk and Treasurer and
has seen many changes throughout the years.
“We used to do everything manually including
“
guring out the electric bills by reading
kilowatt charts and meter readings
-calculating the discounts on an adding
machine. Utility bills were handwritten with
carbon copy duplicates. Everything was on a
typewriter,” Doane said.
She has sinhe has since seen the village through
S
computerization of all the records, full lling
the growing requirements for more village
documentation, setting up billing system
upgrades and bringing the village online.
She has also been involved in LARM for
many of those years.
“
“Ansley was one of the communities in the
1980’s that had their coverage cancelled by
a commercial insurer. LARM had the most
competitive pricing and offered the
broadest coverage so we went with them,”
Doane said. She added they have been
happy with LARM.
“
“We appreciate the loss control
information and assistance we get from
LARM that wouldn’t be available from With about 425 residents, the Village of
private insurance.” Ansley is just a little south of being in the
center of Nebraska. The picture above
was taken from Highway 2.
