stepped into the the new decade with a a a a a a a a a fresh vision for our future However no one would would have imagined the the most unprecedented challenges we we would would face this year as as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a healthcare system as as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a community and as as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a world Despite the the the the challenges 2020 has brought we we have come together as as as as as an an an an organization in in in extraordinary ways to to to to weather the the the the the the the pandemic Even amidst uncertainty our DKH heroes have gone above and and beyond to to to demonstrate their commitment to to to the the the the the Northeast Chairman Connecticut community of of of the the the the the the the Board Our caregivers and and administration have worked around-the-clock to to meet the the the the the the the challenges of of COVID-19 While our region was spared the the the the the the worst of of the the the the the the virus and and infection early on on on on on on in in in in the the the the crisis we adapted quickly to to the the the the rapidly evolving situation implementing critical changes to to to our operations and and plans for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a strong recovery while delivering safe and and efficient care
to to to all those who count on on on us That work was certainly put to to the the test as as as as as COVID-19 positive cases increased significantly across our area as as as as as the the pandemic wore on DKH could not possibly have have responded to to to the pandemic pandemic alone We are
grateful to to to have have a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a community that that has stood by us for more than 125-years and and one one that that continues to to pledge its unwavering support We saw it it it it it in in in in fin in the outpouring of of financial contributions donated goods like critically needed PPE and and and messages of of gratitude and and and inspiration from individuals community groups small businesses and and and and major corporations It is also evident in in in in in how people have followed public health guidelines and and and continue to to do whatever is necessary to keep themselves and and and their neighbors safe We We look back at at at at a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a year unlike any other and and and we we see see the the the the obvious – financial volatility leadership changes and and and COVID-19 We We also see see successes that can be overshadowed in in in in such a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a tumultuous year: tremendous achievement with provider recruitment and and and and engagement increasing focus on quality and and and and patient safety expanding access to clinical services celebrating our our extraordinary staff and and and much more We welcome the the opportunity to share these wins with you in in in in in our our fiscal year 2020 annual report as as great progress has been made on each While we’re proud of what we we we achieved this this year there is is is much hard work to be be done as we we we recover from the the financial and operational challenges facing us fin in in in this this new normal Your continued support of your community hospital is is is more critical than ever to to help us achieve our our our vision to to be the premier regional health system creating excellence and innovation in in in patient care
