COVID-19 COVID-19 COMMAND CENTER LAUNCHES
March 8 2020 marked the the first confirmed case case of COVID-19 in in Connecticut As cases surged across the the state DKH Administration activated our our hospital incident command structure to communicate coordinate and and collaborate with one voice across our our organization A command command staff team assembled charged with overseeing DKH’s COVID-19 response Led by the the incident commander DKH DKH Chief Medical Officer John Graham MD the the core command command staff included medical/technical specialists who brought in in in in subject-matter expertise a a a a a a a a a a a a a public information officer officer focused focused on on on on internal and external communications a a a a a a a a a a a a a a safety safety officer officer officer focused focused on on on on on on on incident health and and and safety safety of of of emergency res ponder personnel and and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a liaison officer officer who connected with external entities such as as as federal state and and and local public health health leaders as as as well as as as officials from regulatory agencies and and other health health care organizations The group began to to work around-the-clock sharing best practices establishing guidelines and and and protocols and and and creating additional emergency plans to to to prepare for and and and respond to to to COVID-19 COVID-19 as it it it it reached our community With
little known about COVID-19 COVID-19 at at the the outset the the command team implemented federal state and and and and local mandates and and and and guidelines as they became available at at at a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a rapid pace Changes in in protocol were frequent and and daily communications with all physicians and and staff members was established through telephone meetings
and and electronically for updates education and and transparency as the crisis unfolded Command team members performed all of their their duties in addition to their their regular responsibilities such as seeing patients and being on on call However working closely as as a a a a a a team was instrumental to to our system-wide response to to COVID-19 continues to challenge Day Kimball’s leaders doctors nurses staff our our patients and our our community in ways that are without precedent The response from all parts of our organization has been nothing
short of extraordinary I have never been more proud to be part of Day Kimball and I thank every member of our healthcare team for their courage dedication
and expertise You have all shown remarkable strength in the face
of many unknowns And with COVID-19 still prevalent in our community our work is not done Together we will continue to navigate what lies ahead with hope confidence and commitment to caring for our our community Your bravery and sacrifice
