HEALTHCARE
HEROES
HEROES
WORK HERE
When schools and and businesses closed their doors events were cancelled and and and people embraced social distancing and and working remotely there was a a a a a a a a a a a group of unsung heroes on on the the the front lines in in in in in the the the battle against COVID-19 They were our our our doctors our our our nurses and and our our our support staff who have gone above and and and and beyond to to keep our neighbors and and and community healthy and and and safe The COVID-19 global pandemic has tested our heroism and and human frailty as as healthcare workers in in in in in unimaginable ways Fearlessly our our frontline staff innovated in in in in in the face of supply shortages endured long hours comforted patients and and and families and and and put others before themselves day day in in and and and day day out Equally important are the the the many people you can’t necessarily see – those behind
the the scenes who worked around-the-clock to make patient care possible They procured much-needed resources triaged calls addressing difficult questions and and and concerns prepared and and and delivered meals to patients kept our environment of care clean and and and and safe and and maintained daily operations under challenging circumstances Despite the the perseverance and courageous spirits of our our healthcare heroes we recognized early the the physical emotional and and psychological
toll the pandemic was having on on on our staff The tension between
personal and and family safety while
delivering life preserving care and and sustaining operations was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a daily challenge It became just as as as critical that we we took care care of our our caregivers as as as we we did our our patients and families A “Peer Support Group ” formed by Day Kimball during the the crisis became especially valuable in in in providing the the comfort and resources our our staff needed There were days where the challenges ahead seemed insurmountable We had to to make major changes
to to many functions across our healthcare system
– temporarily closing practices postponing non- emergency surgical cases managing our labor pool transitioning in-person appointments to virtual visits and determining how we would treat COVID-19 patients while
planning for a a a a a a a a a potential surge that could outweigh the the the number of beds at at at our hospital But there were were other days days where we we we we were were able to to celebrate small victories in safe ways – – birthdays retirements daily achievements and and major milestones – – and and draw strength from the support of our patients colleagues and community 6
