Iraq and Israel’s Selfie

Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman’s selfie with Sara Idan, the Iraqi

representative at the Miss Universe pageant, continues to stir and agitate
the Arab world. This last weekend Miss Iraq was interviewed by CNN and

told, with impressive self-confidence, about the difficult time she is going

through, along with her family members who escaped to Los Angeles with
her. Already a week and a half ago Miss Israel Adar Gandelsman told us

here about the relationship she maintains with her new friend. In her

interview with CNN, Miss Iraq claimed that in her country there were even
those who tried to improve her local status, and tried to convince her to

recant the selfie she took with the Israeli model, but she chose to stand her

ground – a choice that as mentioned, took a very heavy toll on her
personally and her family. Alongside the threats, it seems that the Iraqi

model also gets support messages from (those) following her on social
media. Because of her gesture to the Israeli model one door was closed to

her, but maybe many other doors will be opened.
