The Disabled are Not Resting
Hilit Shmueli is a mother of a disabled girl, who has become disabled
herself about two years ago. For years she has been fighting for her
daughter; now she must fight for both of them, in poor health. In
preparation for the special discussion that took place today at the Knesset,
she showed up at a preliminary discussion in the Zionist Union faction to
cry out the cry of the disabled. The disabled once again blocked the main
roads today, primarily Route 1. If it is not enough that the disabled
allowance still has not increased, this year the ministry of welfare also
refused to preempt the allotment of allowances for the holidays. In the
reply that Hilit received from the minister of welfare, it says that the law
allows for a maximum of a six-day advance of the allowance in order not
to create too large a gap between each allowance. Though the Knesset is in
the height of its three-month break, less than half of the Knesset members
bothered to show up today at the discussion. The disabled who came to the
Knesset today mostly watched a political quarrel. That is also the reason
why immediately afterwards they went out again to block roads, this time
Route 1. They understand that for a solution they will have to keep
waiting, at least until after the holidays.
