Story - What Should We Make for Rosh Hashana?
Dina: Moshe, Next week is Rosh Hashana. Maybe we’ll invite Ilana, my friend
(f.)?
Moshe: Go ahead, invite (her), why not?
Dina: Ilana, how are you? I want to invite you for Rosh Hashana.
Ilana: Gladly! I’ll be there. What should I [to] make?
Dina: Don’t make anything. We’ll make everything.
Ilana: I’m not asking you. (I’ll) make a cake.
Dina: A cake? No, don’t make a cake… We’ll get fat.
Ilana: Oh, stop it. Moshe and you will never get fat. You’re so skinny.
Dina: We’re not skinny at all. But okay, make a cake. Worst comes to worse, we’ll
get fat a little.
Ilana: Excellent. Say, Dina… Can I ask you something. But feel comfortable to
say no.
Dina: Okay. (I’ll) feel comfortable to say no. What do you want to ask?
Ilana: Can I bring someone to the meal?
Dina: Someone? What, you have a boyfriend? Wow! I don’t believe (it)!
Ilana: Believe, believe… I have a boyfriend. And I really want you to get to know
(each other).
Dina: Excellent, so we’ll get to know (each other) on Rosh Hashana. Moshe, Ilana
has a boyfriend! She’ll bring him to the meal!
Ilana: Wait, wait, Dina! I don’t know if my boyfriend will agree to come.
Dina: Who’s asking him?! Of course he’ll agree.
Ilana: Okay, if you say (so)… At what time should we come [to arrive]?
Dina: (You’ll) arrive whenever you arrive. We won’t start eating before you’ll
arrive.
Ilana: Cool. So I’ll see you on Rosh Hashana, and… Shana Tova.
